Architects and designers have long recognized the important connections between the built environment and human health and well-being. This program allows students to study those relationships in depth and gain real-world experience in firms doing significant work in a variety of practice fields, including healthcare facility design, environments for special populations, and environments that promote community and social health.

Completion of the requirements for the Graduate Certificate of Health & Wellness Design vary according to each student’s academic situation. All students are required to take ARCH 731. Students in the NAAB accredited Master of Architecture program would complete the certificate by taking ARCH 807 and 808 in the final year of the program. Students not enrolled in the professional Master of Architecture program would take a total of fifteen (15) graduate hours in courses approved by the Health & Wellness faculty.

Required Course:

  • ARCH 731: Architecture of Health (3 credit hours)

Other Courses:

  • ARCH 600: Evidence-Based Design Research Theories and Methods (3 credit hours)
  • ARCH 700: Directed Readings on topics related to Health and Wellness Design (3 credit hours)
