Alumni Spotlight: Meg Overbaugh

I graduated from the University of Kansas in May 2024, with a BFA in Illustration and Animation. I have been in Kansas for most of my life, but KU was really a home away from home for me. It gave me a place to hone my skills as an artist, and I met a lot of great creative people in my time there. The dual nature of my program gave me a lot of space to learn and experiment as a designer.

I’ve had a lot to consider in my time since gradation. Since I want to stay in the Kansas City area for the time being, I’ve expanded my scope beyond animation to look at the wider expanse of production jobs and lesser-known creative roles. I still intend to pursue animation on the side and in my personal work, and have done some freelance in my time since graduation. I am currently a Lead Animator at the Lawrence-based startup Ghost View Studios, working with a small team on a short film production. Most recently, I have accepted an offer to work as a UI Production Artist at Garmin. There are a lot of options out there for us creatives, you just have to know how to look for them!"
