Fresh Check Day

Fresh Check Day, the signature program of the Jordan Porco Foundation, is an uplifting mental health promotion and suicide prevention event for colleges that includes interactive expo booths, peer-to-peer messaging, support of multiple campus departments and groups, free food, entertainment, therapy dogs, and exciting prizes and giveaways. Fresh Check Day aims to create an approachable and hopeful atmosphere where students are encouraged to engage in dialogue about mental health and helps to build a bridge between students and the mental health resources available on campus, in the community, and nationally.” (FCD Website).

KU Design Professional Lecture Series: Dan Padavic

Dan Padavic is a multimedia art director and founder of Vahalla Studios, a full service flat-stock screen printing and letterpress studio in North Kansas City, Missouri. Padavic’s work incorporates the hand of a printmaker combined with the sensibilities of a graphic designer to produce multifaceted strategic branding projects for clients large and small.

KU Design Professional Lecture Series Workshop: Dan Padavic, Type as Image

Join this week's Design Lecturer for a workshop exploring typography as image; lunch will be provided. Dan is a KU alumni who graduated with a degree in Visual Communication Design in 2004. His work incorporates the knowledge and hand of a printmaker, combined with the sensibilities of a graphic designer.

Creators' Ball
8pm | The Oread, Kansas Room
Every year AIAS KU hosts Creators' Ball, a beaux arts ball to celebrate the work of architecture AND design students throughout the year. Part of this event includes a gallery walk of student work. Tickets are 18$ or 15$ if you submit to the gallery and have your work shown. The ball is open to any students or faculty of the architecture AND design department at KU!
Tickets will be sold in between studios from now until the day of the event along with tickets at the door. If you need to buy tickets but can't at that time (aka design build or 5th years) please reach out to AIAS Instagram or any of our board members!

Do you have a job lined up after graduation? Please take the First Destination Survey now!
If you are still job hunting, you have until May 16 to submit your response to this required survey. If your plans change, you can retake the survey up to 6 months after graduation.
If you plan to graduate in the summer of 2025, and would like to participate in the Spring 2025 ArcD Graduation Ceremony, please submit an application to graduate by April 18.

If you plan to study abroad or are returning and need to take Environmental Systems (I or II), Programming, Ethics and Leadership, or Visualizing Site and Natural Forces, these will all be offered online in summer. Electives will be offered at undergraduate and graduate levels – make sure to enroll in the correct course number for your needs. The posters are merely advertisements – please see the online course directory for complete listings and contact the course instructor for more information.

Ongoing | KU Field Station
here-ing is a walking labyrinth—created by Janine Antoni in partnership with the Spencer Museum, the Kansas Biological Survey and Center for Ecological Research, and the DesignBuild Studio in KU’s School of Architecture—in the shape of the anatomy of the human ear. At the heart of the project is an invitation for the public to return to their bodies through intimately relating to the land.
You can explore here-ing for free on any day between sunrise and sunset. It is located adjacent to the Roth Trailhead at the KU Field Station. Find here-ing on Google Maps.
Strange and Familiar Places | Nelson Atkins

Photography professor Elise Kirk featured in exhibition at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City
Strange and Familiar Places presents 26 works by 10 contemporary photographers who tell compelling stories about people, communities, and the land they inhabit. Their intimate photographs focus on rural subjects in the Midwest, South, and Western United States, often challenging our preconceptions of these regions.

Interior Design Intern

Scholarships
TCAA Architecture/Interior Design Scholarship
TCAA award a $5,000 scholarship to a qualifying student who at the time of application is working toward an undergraduate or graduate level professional degree in Architecture or Interior Design; and two $5,000 scholarship to qualifying family members of an employee of a TCAA contractor member company, in accordance with eligibility criteria and application instructions.

The AIA St. Louis Scholarship
The AIA St. Louis Scholarship Fund is now accepting applications for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year. This is a great opportunity for architecture students from the St. Louis region.
The AIA St. Louis Scholarship Fund offers opportunities for students that are born or raised in the St. Louis region and are studying architecture in their third, fourth and fifth year or graduate work at an NAAB accredited school of architecture (the University may be located anywhere).
