Alumni Spotlight: Will Latham

I graduated with a BFA in Industrial Design from the University of Kansas in 2024, with minors in Communication Studies and Design Entrepreneurship. Growing up in Arkansas, KU felt like the perfect place to combine my love for hands-on creation and innovative problem-solving. The supportive Jayhawk community and the talented faculty helped me hone my skills and find my passion for user-centered design.
During my time at KU, I served as President of the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA) KU Chapter, where I organized events, skill-building workshops, and mentorship programs to promote collaboration and growth among students. I also had the privilege of working on several sponsored studio projects with renowned brands across the country, many of which were led by former KU Industrial Design graduates from a variety of industries. These projects taught me how to design impactful products that effectively align with user needs and market trends.
These experiences laid a strong foundation for my career, preparing me to take on exciting roles in the industry. Currently, I am an Industrial Design Intern at Hamilton Beach Brands Inc., where I focus on usability improvements, CMF (Color, Material, Finish) updates, and collaborating with the innovation team to develop user-friendly, cost-effective designs that address unmet user needs in the home appliance category.
The lessons I learned at KU continue to guide my approach to design, blending functionality with creativity to enhance everyday interactions. I’m proud to be part of the global Jayhawk network, and I love connecting with fellow KU alumni who share the same dedication and passion for innovation. To prospective students: cherish every moment and take advantage of the incredible opportunities KU has to offer—it’s a place that truly shapes your future.
