MEDIA ADVISORY: See KU's entry to the Solar Decathlon take shape [Feb. 1]

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Architecture & Design's, Dirt Works Studio, is competing with more than a dozen national and international collegiate teams to design and build the most sustainable, cutting-edge house powered by renewable energy as part of the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon® Build Challenge competition. This house, which includes timber insulation, a healthier and more sustainable alternative to typical insulation materials, is just one of several designs being constructed by student teams participating in the Solar Decathlon.

This Wednesday, Feb. 1, the University of Kansas team will conduct its first technical visit with the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon® inspectors. This will be an opportunity to meet the students and learn about the unique features planned for their bio-based home that will be built locally, as they prepare for their first exhibition in April.
