Architecture Department Celebrates 2026 Portfolio Award Winners
Since September 2021, the KU Department of Architecture has advanced a collaborative portfolio review process for 3rd- and 4th-year M.Arch students—strengthening how portfolios are developed, discussed, and presented. The initiative is guided by three goals: building a culture of support, deepening faculty dialogue around teaching, and connecting students with alumni and practicing architects through the review process.
This collective effort has led to the identification of more than 70 portfolio finalists, with 26 student portfolios recognized as exemplary by external reviewers—an achievement that reflects both individual excellence and a strong, engaged design community.
A defining strength of the program is its network of alumni and professional reviewers, who represented leading national and global firms, alongside contributors from academic institutions such as Columbia College Chicago and the University of Virginia. Their participation brings critical industry insight and mentorship directly into the portfolio development process.
These portfolios showcase not only design talent and creativity, but also the collective investment of faculty, alumni, and practitioners committed to preparing the next generation of architects.
