Biography —
Abbey Ockinga, a lecturer in KU’s Design and Interior Architecture programs, earned her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from the University of Nebraska. Ockinga has commercial interior design experience specializing in materiality, space planning, and building information modeling. She also holds a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Kansas, focusing on Housing and Development and is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional.
Prior to the University of Kansas, Ockinga taught Interior Architecture and Product Design courses at Kansas State University. Teaching at KU since 2013, she has focused her course work on foundational design skills and visual communication.
