Biography

Abbey Ockinga is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Kansas, where she has been teaching in the School of Architecture and Design since 2013. Her courses focus on foundational architectural design skills and communication in the design process. 

Ockinga earned her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from the University of Nebraska and a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Kansas with a focus on Housing and Development. She has professional experience in commercial and residential interior design and is both NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) certified and a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional. Prior to the University of Kansas, Ockinga taught Interior Architecture and Product Design courses at Kansas State University.
