Biography —
Bryan Gross serves as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Kansas (KU) School Architecture + Design. He earned bachelor’s degrees in both Environmental Design and Architecture from KU, and a Graduate Diploma in Architectural History and Theory from the Architectural Association in London. Early in his career Bryan taught architectural design part time at several institutions, including KU, Johnson County Community College, and Lawrence Technological University in Detroit. In 2022 Bryan returned to that passion, and has been teaching at KU since then.
Bryan spent the last 40 years primarily working in architectural offices in the Detroit and Kansas City areas, most recently as a Principal at Helix Architecture + Design. Throughout his career Bryan has specialized in designing academic buildings for colleges and universities throughout the country. His projects have received numerous local, regional and national design awards and ten projects received LEED certification from the US Green Building Council. One of those projects even receiving the prestigious AIA Committee on the Environment’s Top Ten Green Projects award. Recently Bryan’s focus has been on two primary building types, medical education buildings and academic performing arts centers. One of the highlights of his career has been receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from his alma mater, the University of Kansas. At the end of 2023 Bryan retired from professional practice in order to focus more energy on teaching.
