Biography

Sujan Shilpakar is a Chevening Alumni and PhD Researcher in Architecture, specializing in the intersection of contemporary sustainable design and cultural heritage. His research investigates how vernacular architecture and community-driven practices in Nepal can inform resilient urban transformation. Grounded in an interdisciplinary framework, his work integrates heritage conservation, ethical inquiry, and design innovation. He leverages cross-sector collaboration and stakeholder engagement, regularly partnering with local communities, academic institutions, and professional bodies to ensure his research is both grounded and impactful. Through this process, he has honed his skills in strategic partnership building and interdisciplinary communication. Sujan examines vernacular traditions not as static relics, but as dynamic repositories of knowledge. His research explores the potential of these culturally grounded design principles to strengthen community resilience amid global challenges like climate change and rapid urbanization. Driven by a commitment to bridge theory and practice, he excels at translating complex research into actionable insights for architects, planners, and policymakers. As a practising architect, public speaker, and academic advocate, he has led workshops and presented findings to diverse audiences, demonstrating leadership in knowledge dissemination. He is passionate about mentoring emerging professionals and advancing a design ethos that is ecologically responsible, socially equitable, and culturally resonant.
