Prohibition of Vehicle Parking and Storage Inside East Hills
Purpose
This policy establishes clear guidelines regarding the presence, parking, and storage of vehicles inside East Hills facilities in order to ensure compliance with Fire Marshal requirements and applicable fire safety codes.
Scope
This policy applies to all faculty, staff, students, visitors, and third parties using or accessing East Hills interior spaces.
Policy Statement
Vehicles powered by flammable liquids or gases are not permitted to be parked or stored inside East Hills under normal operating conditions. In accordance with Fire Marshal directives and the International Fire Code (2006), Sections 313 and 314, the indoor presence of vehicles is strictly limited and subject to the conditions outlined below.
Definitions
Vehicle: Any liquid- or gas-fueled motorized conveyance, including cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, and modified vehicles.
Temporary Housing: Short-duration indoor placement strictly limited to active use (e.g., loading, unloading, instructional demonstration).
Requirements and Restrictions
General Prohibition
- Vehicles shall not be parked or stored inside East Hills facilities.
- Long-term or unattended indoor vehicle storage is strictly prohibited.
Temporary Indoor Use (Exception)
- Vehicles powered by flammable liquids may be brought indoors only for the brief period during which they are actively in use.
- Upon completion of use, vehicles must be immediately relocated to an approved exterior parking location.
Fire Code Compliance Conditions
Any vehicle temporarily located indoors must meet all of the following conditions:
- Battery must be disconnected.
- Fuel in the tank shall not exceed ΒΌ tank or 5 gallons (whichever is less).
- Fuel tanks and fill openings must be closed and sealed to prevent tampering.
- Vehicles must not obstruct exits, corridors, or fire access routes.
Prohibited Practices
- Leaving vehicles indoors overnight or unattended.
- Using indoor spaces for vehicle storage, staging, or parking.
- Modifying or bypassing safety requirements to accommodate indoor vehicle placement.
Findings and Enforcement
Fire Marshal inspections have identified multiple vehicles being stored indoors, which is not compliant with fire safety regulations. Immediate corrective action is required.
Failure to comply with this policy may result in:
- Immediate removal of the vehicle from the facility
- Suspension of access privileges to East Hills
- Additional corrective or disciplinary action as determined by the University
