Institute for Smart Cities
The Institute for Smart Cities, an initiative of the School of Architecture & Design at the University of Kansas, intends to be at the forefront of research and innovation in designing and planning data-driven smart environments that can improve livability for all citizens while dramatically reducing resource consumption.
The Design-build of a Smart Home
The goal of the smart home is to monitor the resident’s health and vital signs by using smart mirrors, toilets, floors with gait analysis, sleep sensors, and adjusted color lighting. With predictive algorithms, this could help detect precursors for Alzheimer’s disease, signs of a stroke, and other conditions. Fifth-year KU Architecture students helped execute the project in the East Hills Design-Build Center.
