Architecture capstone studio to present plans for aerial lift public transit system
LAWRENCE – In September 2020, The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS and the KCK Urban Design & Planning Department commissioned a pro-bono study with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and HR&A Advisors to explore the economic and infrastructural feasibility of linking downtown Kansas City, KS, the Historic West Bottoms, and downtown Kansas City, MO with an aerial lift public transit system.
This spring, KU Arc/D's Kansas City-based Sports & Entertainment Capstone Design Studio led by architecture professor Andrew Moddrell developed an expanded vision for a bi-state KC gondola system that connects existing and proposed civic destinations through an extended route network including new transit-oriented development sites and a riverfront park framework.
The School of Architecture & Design would like to thank HNTB for hosting our studio at their offices in Kansas City, MO.
The studio will present its proposal at 12:00 p.m. on April 29 at the Mid-America Regional Council, 600 Broadway Boulevard in Kansas City, MO.
