Dirt Works Studio featured in Design for the Common Good International Exhibition
LAWRENCE – The Passerine Pavilion – designed and built by students in our Dirt Works Studio in collaboration with Douglas County Kansas Public Works – is among 30 projects from 22 countries featured in the Design for the Common Good International Exhibition in Denver.
Hosted by the Center for Visual Art - Metropolitan State University of Denver, the exhibition highlights design projects that illustrate the singular ability of communities to create impactful solutions from within.
Completed in 2021, the Passerine Pavilion is an ADA-accessible viewing platform and shelter that provides a breathtaking view of Lawrence, The University of Kansas campus, and the surrounding hills, forested valleys, and farmlands.
Dirt Works Studio, one of our third-year design-build studios, is drawn to the natural materials that come from the earth itself and inspired by architecture’s ability to positively affect human experience. Founded in 2008 by architecture professor Chad Kraus, Dirt Works Studio has been awarded numerous national and international design and education awards for its community-focused design-build projects.
