Research

My research focuses on how the physical environment of the emergency department responded to pandemics (in an example of the COVID-19 outbreak). The first part of the study will determine the domain of ED physical spaces where adaptations occurred in response to increase surge capacity and infection control strategy. The second part of the study will develop a prototype used during regular operations and respond to a future pandemic. Although there are successful examples of outside structures used to expand EDs capacity. With built-in feature a flexible cohort isolation strategy can be activated during outbreak to manage infected patients by reserving treatment capacity for both at-risk and non-risk patients, by adjusting treatment capacity based on treatment capacity.
